Live CD
Utkarsh LiveCD is based on Gnoppix LiveCD. Gnoppix is a GNU/Linux
LiveCD distribution and is a highly modular system. One has to just
place the CD in the CD drive and select CD as the first boot device.
When the computer is restarted, the software on the CD takes charge of
the system. When one removes CD and restarts the computer, it reverts
to its default status and original operating system.
Utkarsh is an operating system on LiveCD. Thus there is no need to
install Utkarsh on hard disk. Utkarsh LiveCD is a completely safe and
robust operating system.
GNOME Localization (L10N):
Gnome is the graphical system of GNU/Linux. Gnome
includes free software and applications like text editors, games,
graphical programs, programming tools etc. Utkarsh localization of
Gnome is done for the versions 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8. Utkarsh team has
translated more than 17,000 strings from GNOME to Gujarati. To check
the current status of Gujarati translation, kindly visit the Gnome
website.
OpenOffice
OpenOffice
is a free office suite. OpenOffice localization was the biggest
challenge for the Utkarsh team so far. OpenOffice has more than 25000
strings and a complex localization process. This was indeed challenging
and required high level of focal energies. Sun Microsystems supports the OpenOffice project.
Mozilla / Firefox:
Mozilla
is a web browser. It is another high quality free software and is
likely to emerge as the biggest threat to Internet Explorer. Utkarsh
team has started on Mozilla localization and the next version of
Utkarsh will include the same.
Gujarati Fonts:
Utkarsh team has designed "Rekha" and "Aakar" Gujarati fonts. These are basic style Unicode fonts and available for free download.
